Who are ideal candidates for a Liquid Facelift?
Young women in their 40 's who are just starting to see the signs of aging, but who are not yet candidates for a surgical facelift.

People who are in really good shape with very little body fat tend to look older because of the lack of fat in their face.

People who have had a facelift in the past, who do not look as youthful as they could, because the facelift did not address the age related volume loss. (Remember a facelift does two things: 1. It makes the skin container smaller and 2. It reverses the effects of gravity by repositioning the soft tissue of the face to a more youthful position. A facelift does not correct volume loss, nor does it correct the loss of skin elasticity.)

Men are excellent candidates for liquid facelifts. Men in particular do not want obvious changes overnight. Men tend to like improvements that are gradual over time and subtle, but still make them look refreshed and more youthful. What we're trying to avoid is the situation where you appear in your 50's on Friday and you look like you are in your 40's on Monday.

Who are not ideal candidates for a Liquid Facelift?
People who have full or round faces usually are not good candidates for a Liquid Facelift. Liquid Facelifts also do not correct neck issues, such as wrinkles, excess skin, or fat just below the chin.

What products are used for Liquid Facelifts?
Any injectable filler can be used for a Liquid Facelift such as Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus, or Radiesse. However, the most cost-effective and longest lasting product for global facial volume replacement is Sculptra (a Bio-Stimulator).

What is the downtime for a Liquid Facelift?
I define downtime as the time after the treatment where you have to avoid being seen if you don't want anyone to know you had something done. Having said that, the downtown after the Liquid Facelift depends how much bruising you have. If you have no bruising you will be able to go out that evening without anyone noticing. If you have a bruise, it depends on how big the bruise is and if you can cover it with makeup. There is no way to predict if you will have a bruise, how big the bruise will be, or how long the bruise will be there. If people have a bruise, it may last up to a week. Therefore, the downtime for a Liquid Facelift is considerably less than a traditional surgical facelift which has a downtime of two weeks.

What are my instructions following a Liquid Facelift?
The instructions vary depending on the product used to achieve the Liquid Facelift. Please refer to the pages for Sculptra, Perlane, Juvederm Ultra Plus, or Radiesse.

The universal instructions for all of the products used are as follows:

Ice the areas injected for 24 hours.

Keep your head of bed elevated for 24 hours.

No bending, lifting, or straining for 24 hours.

How long does a Liquid Facelift last?
It depends on several factors:

1. It depends on which injectable filler is being used (please refer to the pages specific for each product).

2. It depends on the areas of the face being volumized ( the closer to the mouth the faster the product breaks down because of the greater motion).

3. It depends on the patient; some people breakdown products faster and some people hold on to products longer. There is no way to predict how long a specific product may last in a specific person. During the consultation I can give general ranges for a specific product, for a specific location, but there are no guarantees of duration.

How much filler will I need for a Liquid Facelift?
During the consultation I will give you an estimate on the amount of filler you will need for a Liquid Facelift. The two factors that determine how much filler you will need are: 1. your degree of lost facial volume and 2. your level of expectation. One person may desire just a subtle softening of their folds and wrinkles while another person may desire as much of a correction as possible. The greater your expectations, the more filler you will need.

Will I have a bruise after a Liquid Facelift?
The incidence of bruising depends on the location of the injection, the depth of the injection and the individual patient. Therefore, the chance of bruising after a Liquid Facelift is best discussed during the consultation prior to the injection.

If a bruise does occur, it can be covered with makeup.

In case you do have a bruise, I advise patients not to schedule a Liquid Facelift 14 days prior to any engagement where a bruise maybe unacceptable (i.e. a party or a wedding).

How much discomfort is associated with a Liquid Facelift?
There is very little discomfort during a Liquid Facelift. A topical numbing medication can be applied to the area before the injection if desired; however, this is not required. In addition, there is a numbing medication in the injectable fillers, and therefore the injection itself makes you temporarily numb.

A small percentage of patients complain of a mild ache for a day or two after the Liquid Facelift. This is easily controlled with Motrin or Tylenol.

Procedures / Treatments often performed in conjunction with a Liquid Facelift?
In patients who have volume loss combined with a loss of skin elasticity and excess stretched out skin, sagging facial features, and neck issues (extra fat under the chin, neck wrinkles, and vertical bands of the neck), a liquid facelift is often combined with a traditional facelift and necklift.

Liquid facelifts are often combined with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) to rejuvenate the eyes, thereby complimenting the improvements made in the rest of the face.

Liquid facelifts are often combined with topical Retin-A, topical Vitamin C, topical Vitamin E, Microdermabrasions, and Facial Peels / Chemical Peels.
